Commemorating Japanese Earthquake and Tsunami: Concert, Dance performances and Sake Tasting -Monday 14th March

 Meeting Details:  Meet Gordon on Monday 14 March, between 6 pm and 6.10  pm, at Highbury and Islington station (Victoria Line, National Rail and London Overground, Zone 2) near the ticket office.

The Event:  This event is organised by singer-songwriter Naomi Suzuki ( http://www.naomisuzuki.co.uk ) and the Japanese community in commemoration of the earthquake and tsunami of 5 years ago. It is a collaboration of top UK-based Japanese musicians, and we will be treated to a combination of Japanese music and modern pop songs. You can see more details at https://www.facebook.com/events/1665512723716686. Funds raised will be sent to the Children’s Smile Project ( http://egaobus.kodomonooka.com – sorry, in Japanese only), to comfort and brighten the lives of children in the devastated area.

Timing:  The doors will open at 6pm, and the event will start at 7pm and end at about 9pm.

Detailed Programme:  We will hear and see the following performers:
Joji Hirota (
http://www.jojihirota.com – taiko drummer and shakuhachi player);
Diana Yukawa (
http://www.dianayukawa.com – violin, electronic classics);
Hibiki Ichikawa ( 
http://www.hibikishamisen.com – shamisen player);
Thames Daiko (one of Joji Hirota’s taiko drumming groups);
Children from Fukushima (including Nihon Buyo, traditional dancing).
There will also be free sake tasting, and, subject to availability, guests will receive a free gift from Fukushima.
