Announcement of nominations for SUKA 2020/21 Executive Committee and voting instructions

Dear Member,

Voting for a new Executive Committee for 2020 and 2021 (two-year term) will take place at SUKA’s next Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Monday, 3 February 2020.

Nominations for the next committee

2 nominations were received (in the following order).

  1. Radha Vijya Kumar as President plus team for Executive Committee.
  2. Sherry Myrna as President.

Please refer to the appendix 1 and 2 on the next pages for details of each nomination.

How should I vote?

Nomination 1

Vote for Radha as President and her team as a single vote.

Nomination 2

Vote for Sherry Myrna as President. She will appoint other members of the Executive Committee should she be elected for this post.

Who can vote?

 Only Life members, paid up members (Ordinary, Family and Corporate) and Student members who have renewed/joined for 2020 are allowed to vote.

Voting in person

Voting shall be by secret ballot or show of hands determined by the majority of members present at the AGM.

Proxy voting

Proxy voting is only available for members who are unable to attend the AGM in person.

Brief Statement of Support for Each Nominee (include name and post applied for):
Radha (President) – She has been on the SUKA Ex Committee for the last 6 years as Treasurer and as Secretary currently.  She has experience in running/managing events, accounts for SUKA and the administrative workings of SUKA.  She is driven by her passion for Singapore.  She is a mother of 2 young children and works as a KUMON teacher.  She has been living in the UK after marriage for the last 10 years.
Anu (Vice President) – The Singapore passion in Anu saw her serve SUKA for the past 6 years.  She enjoys bringing Singaporeans and friends together at every chance she has and this enables her to get more members for SUKA.  She is a very good event organiser and emcee.  She has been living in the UK for many years.
Peggy (Treasurer) – She has been in the UK for the past 45 years.    She is a grandmother to 5 grandchildren.  She organises very unique and interesting activities and events for SUKA.  She has been on the SUKA committee for the past 6 years as Vice President and Treasurer currently.  She is very good at promoting SUKA events and making sure the tickets for all events are all sold.
Naveen (Secretary) – Naveen is a Naval Architect & Marine Engineer by profession but is primarily focused on the execution, commissioning and operation phases of decarbonisation and shipping related projects, among other responsibilities for a large MNC. He has an immense passion about Singapore, its unique culture and history. He will bring his ‘youthful’ passion with the aim modernising and rejuvenating SUKA’s events and membership base.
Andrew (Member) – Andrew has worked in London in financial services for the past 3 years. He plays squash and softball and enjoys watching the NBA. He would like to volunteer at SUKA because he loves to give back to the community.  He has been on the committee for NUS UK Alumni and carries experience of planning events for the Singaporean community in the UK.
Joanne (Member) – Joanne is in London due to her secondment with BOS Wealth Management S.A. UK Branch a subsidiary of Bank of Singapore. She has already been in London for approximately 1 year. A true-blue Singaporean with her Singlish, she hopes to bring Singaporeans closer to home via SUKA by being part of the committee.
Regu (Member) – Regu was born and raised in Singapore with Singaporean culture and traditions. Hence Singapore has always been very close to his heart no matter which part of the world he is in.

He is a senior IT consultant working as an expat in the UK in the last four years. SUKA has given him the pleasure and opportunity to reconnect with fellow Singaporeans residing in the UK and he hopes he can get more Singaporeans to reconnect through SUKA.  He would like to use his IT skills to help SUKA.

Adeline (Member) – Adeline has been serving on the SUKA Ex Co for many years in various roles and has a huge wealth of knowledge about SUKA.  She has been in the UK for more than 40 years and live with her husband Anthony.  She hopes her wealth of knowledge about SUKA will help the new team.
Aparnaa (Member) – Having grown up in Singapore it has always held a special place in her heart, and she is grateful to SUKA for bringing a taste of home to the UK and keeping the community spirit of Singapore alive.  Aparnaa is a legal consultant working in the city of London. She hopes to share the joy that SUKA has brought to her with fellow young professionals and students, tap into a new demographic and watch our Singapore community in the UK continue to grow.
Zhi Yu (Student) – Zhi Yu has been on the SUKA Ex Co for the last two years and is happy to continue helping SUKA.  He hopes to get more students to join SUKA and help organise student focussed events.
Yong Zhi (Student) – A 1st year Finance student at LSE.  He would like to help the Singaporean community in the UK while he is studying here.
Nominee(s) Plans for the future of SUKA:
As a team here are some of their aims:
1)    To organise a variety of events for all age groups along with the main cultural events. For example:  Monthly drinks evening, monthly group sports games like football, tennis and golf, Picnics, Trips
2)     To organise events that will be more affordable for everyone.
3)     To attract more Singaporeans and friends of Singapore to join SUKA and attend SUKA events.
