SUKA Deepavali Celebrations 2022 – 22 October – A Review

Hello SUKA family and friends,

Our Deepavali celebration was initially scheduled for the 8th October. However, we were fortunate to be able to switch our event to the 22nd October following the train strike, thanks to the flexibility and support of our members and the restaurant, Mint Leaf Lounge.

We had a wonderful pre-lunch cocktail followed by a really tasty, three-course fine Indian cuisine.  The event started with a speech by our President Anu and a welcome speech by Ivan Tan from the Singapore High Commission. Thereafter, Anu and Ivan proceeded to light the Diya to mark the start of our Deepavali celebrations. While having their starters and main course, the guests were greatly entertained with Indian dances and songs by SUKA Committee Member Apaarna and Narmada SivanasonOur Secretary Cheryl had also tested the attendees’ knowledge of Deepavali traditions and customs with an excellent set of 10 questions, accompanied by prizes for those with the correct answers.

The committee was grateful for the ladies who made a massive effort to dress in their beautiful saris  – we were spoilt for choice when giving out the 8 best dressed prizes! Anu and Ivan presented our famous raffle prizes to our lucky winners where c.25 lucky guests won prizes.

We would like to thank the Singapore Airlines, Drink Morning, Med Salleh, World Scientific Publishing, RUCI, Popo Brar, Prima Taste, Yeo’s, Vicky Holmes, Mikayla Design Bureau and Maha Cook for the raffle prizes as well as the Singapore Global Network for their continued support for SUKA.

On the actual Deepavali day, Anu was invited to give an interview on CNA 938 on how SUKA celebrated the happy occasion, flying the SUKA flag high and wide.
