The sun beamed on all of us today as SUKA celebrated Hari Raya and National Day at Pak Awie Restaurant in Paddington. Everybody left with bright smiles after enjoying the very delicious food as well as stellar entertainment!
Our High Commissioner His Excellency T Jasudasen and his wife Mrs Patricia Jasudasen graced the occasion for a while, leading us in our national pledge. We also had talented musicians Liz Chi Yen Liew and Dennis Lim accompany us with a violin and flute during the singing of our national anthem Majulah Singapura. Mrs Jasudasen commented that it was very beautiful and unique to hear! We have a clip below showing all of us singing – apologies, the sound quality could be better…
Our very own Sharliza Jelita then treated us to her rendition of Moon River and her self-penned national song, ‘Singapore, It’s Where We Belong’. She wants lots of people to vote for her song to be selected for the Singapore 50th National Day celebrations!
This was followed by the Lila Bhawa Dance Group who captivated us with a Jaipongan dance in their bright and gorgeous red costumes and red fans that make a very strong slapping sound! Very grateful to Ms Khai Khalid who was responsible for booking Lila Bhawa for us.
Not to be outdone, composer Liz Chi Yen Liew performed three songs from her debut album Snapshots – and played a hauntingly beautiful show. She is also one of the lucky winners of a Singapore Airlines return ticket to Singapore! Congratulations to those of you who were lucky enough to bring home one or two prizes!
We are very grateful to our kind sponsors Romanov Restaurant, Rasa Sayang and Pak Awie for the raffle prizes. We also would like to thank our Indonesian friends Lila Bhawa dance group for their superb performance and Denny Soh for photography. Last but not least, thank you to SUKA President VT Rajah for distinguishing the proceedings with flair and humour as well as committee members Peggy and Yvonne for all their contributions.
Thank you very much to all our guests who have made this sell-out event a great success. Here are more pictures – more pictures wanted! Please email them to ilikesuka (at) gmail.com.
