Taking place on Tuesday 12th May, as part of Asia House Bagri Foundation Literature Festival 2015, two of Singapore’s most celebrated writers will talk about pushing boundaries through literature. Audrey Chin, author of highly acclaimed works including the recent As the Heart Bones Break, is a strong female voice, who has a background in the financial sector and remains a board director in addition to her writing. Audrey’s book Singapore Women Re-presented offers an alternative representation of the country’s evolution from mangrove fishing village to first world global city told through the eyes of women, who were initially excluded from official records. Meanwhile, Amanda Lee Koe has become known for her frank writing on sexuality, feminism and queer relativism, which is reflected in her debut collection of short stories, Ministry of Moral Panic. Both women will talk about what it’s like writing risqué prose, how they have documented alternative narratives and what these stories say about contemporary Singapore.
